Fantastic track; shows real musical ability. The samples you were given are used in such a way that, although they are ‘car sounds’, they compliment the rest of the piece perfectly, becoming their own instruments – this is the way a track should sound in a competition like this.
Combine that with a unique, bass laden melody and you have your winner.
It’s catchy, you can listen to it over and over again without it becoming at all repetitive – it definitely sticks in your mind.
Thus, this track would work exceptionally well in a car advert; Hyundai should definitely pick this.

Anyone can right a piece of music, and then chuck a couple of car sounds in. The tune is alright, but is it best for the competition?

Yes it is!! it’s the only one where the tune sticks in your mind……people will hum along……it’s memorable. Oh and NO not everyone can write a piece of music.

The piece is ok but it’s not about taste – it wouldn’t be fair if this won as there are not enough car sounds in it.

Its not about quality, its all down to how many friends you have,. what a farce.

sadly – this is why I didnt enter, I was held up finishing my mix properly due to illness but I had enough to have popped an entry in, but due to the voting system choosing the winner it really put me off, i’ve been a moderator on a competition site for 7 years and never seen a voting competition where the winner, purely chosen via voting actually was the best one.
I am not saying this one isnt good, because it is but at the end of the day its a popularity contest, really 30 beat and hyundai should have the say on who wins, it wasnt an easy task and entrants at least deserve a fair shot

It’s a bit disappointing that in a competition where there’s lots of talent, something that’s just “ok” can be leading the pack so strongly. Surely the competition would have more weight to it if it were judged (additionally?) by an independent panel who are qualified to judge music videos? Bit of a lazy campaign by Hyundai here.

Its not a lazy campaign on hyundai’s part. Theyve got exactly what they want, a huge list of peoples email addresses that they can send crap about hyundai to. It is however, a lazy campaign for 30 beats. But i guess there would be complaints with any style of voting.

I’m not attacking this song, which I do think is good, and I congratulate Thomas on it. I merely think there’s a better way to judge something like this. Even X Factor doesn’t solely rely on the public vote. Personally, I’d use the public vote to narrow it down to a top 10 or top 5, then judge it independently on the technical music/video merits.

Call me cynical, but I’m just a bit tired with marketing campaigns that get the public to produce something for them, but then don’t respect the entries enough to judge them properly.

I like the track, quite good but naive use of the car sounds, which is what i thought it was all about.

putting everything into consideration….this is the best track out of the lot (personally). simply put, it actually sounds like a song, it’s melodic, it has a good rhythm and beat, and it has soul, this is what gives the car a personality thus connecting it to listeners, and it sticks in your head…whereas other tracks which are good in their own right….don’t seem to connect, repetitive clicks and sounds and reving engines just doesnt cut it for me, and it doesnt make it more ‘authentic’, for the people that say anyone can write a peice of music and chuck a couple of car sounds in are blatantly ignorant, and for the people that say ‘not enough car sounds’, really? i think 18 is quite a substantial amount of car sounds. good luck mr jones!

“Al pacino” has a valid point and I agree with some of the comments on this page regarding the voting process. I really understand why people are frustrated and disapointed. This competition is a cost-effective medium for Hyundai to get an exposure: you guys have worked to create a track… and now you are working for a month to promote it and indirectly promote Hyundai. YOU are generating the buzz. One contestant is bringing a Charity into the equation while another contacts a car magazine resulting in hundreds of extra votes for them in a few days. So in the end the winner of the I30 isn’t the one with the most original creation or even the most friends, but the one that works the hardest to promote hyundai. that’s it.

I thank 30 beats for explaining but how can the one with the most friends ( and why have voting allowed as 1 per day? 1 per ip addy should suffice- you only need to show once which one you like) ) be displaying what the majority like.=???
I have worked alongside ISP and other big promoters and voting if done this way is to narrow it down to top 5 or 10 then get independant people in to finish it off.
the ISP are actively encouraging companies to ditch the voting comps and if you google their site you will see why.
is voting 1 per IP address? we have seen comps with some having 100′s of aliases, at least decent companies are following this now. and helping to choose winners after voting is done.
wishing that I had entered mine now lol and after listening I KNOW mine wouldnt have been the best BUT I KNOW I would have won and why…………because I could have got 2000 votes a day easy from the site I am on not to mention friends and family (our site has over 100,000 members) so would that have been fair?……not in a million years, would it have been the best on here?….. not in a million years, BUT it would have won on the voting factor alone, where is the fairness in that. goodness at the end of the day I could have stuck anything in and won because I could have got the votes-Years ago voting comps were good but sadly they arnt now. this comp was an excellent idea, many have gone to a lot of trouble and hard work to enter and for what- for i all to be decided by public vote an who has the most friends and contacts, such a shame…

why not let people choose out of the top3 voted by the public then ? and why not stop people registering 50 times as one person ? that is the real thing that stops it being fair, i know thomas jones hasnt got 881 friends or even 440 that logged on twice.

how many people do you think you have coming to this site that are not generated by the people involved ? judging by the number of votes. not that many. i think de niro has it right. a nice business idea for hyundai but not fair for the people involved. its a bit of a silly way of voting because its purely down to how many contacts the people can muster up.

the date !? whats that got to do with it ? (do you mean the date an actual email account is created or are you referring to the login here?) if you are talking about an email account then 30beats or anyone else has no clue when it was created, your information after all should be secure in an email account from yahoo or similar) also just because an email account is created on a certain date means absolutely nothing.

if i was judging it i would be looking at ip addresses and patterns of voting. if 1 ip address constantly votes for one person and that ip address is using multiple accounts then its either a big house full of people or someone is using multiple accounts to vote themselves up. im not actually sure that 30beats even care about this – be interested to know if so (30beats?) – is it against your terms to use multiple accounts? if it is indeed a popularity contest then does that include friends making multiple accounts ? how do you hope to enforce this ?

Nice track, and definitely catchy . However, personally I felt a bit let down when the car sounds that were prominent at the beginning got drowned out by everything else. I’m not that familiar with the rules but, even though 18 were used, this just sounds like a good track made with very few car samples

To be honest, I really like the track but It is definitely not the best on here. I agree with Pos n that it does sound fairly amateur (that is simply some constructive critisism i dont want to offend anyone). With some tweaking I think the production could be improved and I think the track would be brilliant.

Personally, on hearing about the competition by chance and, not knowing anyone involved, I think Colins is the best. But this one is also very good.

But like people have said, it doesn’t really matter how good your track is. you could upload a recording of yourself shitting and still win if you tried hard enough lol

But if you knew that the competition was being judged on average star rating for the first few days, you would have realised that when people voted 1 star, it brought the mean total down. So no, people may not have ‘just not liked the track’, they might have been sabotaging his average rating in order to give themselves/their friend a better chance. Have you not noticed that since the voting changed to ‘total star votes’, everybody’s average rating has increased substantially?

yeah ive studied the graphs and it looks funny to me. so now the competition has changed nobody is doing any dodgy voting right ? theyre not making multiple accounts and 5 starring their friend over and over right (which is just the same as voting someone else a 1 really – same cheating) i want to hear what 30beats have to say about this ?

What appears most disturbing is that in all your time amassing a record collection (excuse us while we reel in awe), which has by some miraculous feat given you a talent for mixing, you have clearly not learned any punctuation or grammar that is usually mastered by key stage 1.

It’s quite an important factor if you wish to convey any authority when asserting facts as you know them. Although your spelling of ‘Shakespeare’s’ is quite cute.

A talent is natural – it is not gained by sitting in your bedroom, getting greasy palmed over a record that you have bought that none of your friends have heard of. Probably for good reason. (Note the word ‘probably’. If I didn’t use it I would sound like an arrogant music bore…ring any bells?)

And even then Beethoven got along just fine by the sound of his later symphonies. In that context, your statement is entirely redundant.

You also seemed to have dodged enough in the way of abstract thought or ‘learning’ to know that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. After listening to the top 4 entries once again, this is the only one where the car sounds have been mastered into a musical composition. The others are just car noises strung together, with a bit of boom boom thrown in for good measure.

It seems to be impossible to give an opinion about the work of Thomas Jones without being called “jealous” or “sore loser” by a militia of loyal fans… Fair enough, Friendship is a beautiful thing. actually nikkys track is the best submitted. it has originality and freshness which toms does not, and i favour that in music more than stuff that sounds like other stuff youve heard before. to suggest im jealous of some amateur who has given a free track to a pr company is utterly ridikled onions.

You are probably as perplexed as i about the rise of Vantage. He obviously had a technique that they could not prove was cheating, or had a better strategy than us.
