Hyundai 30Beats Remix – Nikky French

Nikky French

Nikky is a musician and producer from Brighton and regularly experiments with sound by using street recordings in his band’s creations.

Nikky tells us:

“This seemed like a fun little project and the quality of the original car recordings were so high that I couldn’t justify putting in extra sounds from synths or drums, etc.”

This is amazing. Using only the sounds of the car create a brilliant and catchy track and you would be forgiven for thinking additional electronic instruments were used. Top class!

Posted on 10th October, 2009

ben9,
That track you’ve posted is nothing like this one. What’s your point, that this fella has blended his own original work with an existing Hyundai vid? It’s a top track, timed to a video and deserves to be up there at the end I’d say……right, off to listen to more of the tunes now….

pos51
Posted on 10th October, 2009

ben9 – so people were supposed to spend their time creating a fully featured video production as well for free in the hope they might win something ? have you any idea what it takes to make something like that ? bit of a liberty to expect that someone should write a whole tune *and* a professionally produced original video. if theres the possibility that it would all get thrown away i know i wouldnt bother.

OOOH washer. A friend of Thomas perhaps. I know you are not a friend of Vantage, as we all know he has none.

This track has rightfully been in the top 3 right from the start. And i noticed that everyone had points taken off for one reason or another. So your point is?

Extremely suspicious how all of a sudden you’re managing to gain over 200 votes right at the end of the competition, whereas in previous weeks you’ve struggled to hit the 150 mark.
That’s all I’ve noticed this past few hours!

kateeaton

Where are all these votes coming from?!

baddabing

Shooting so quickly up the leaderboard in a matter of hours. This has to be investigated!!

300 votes in 24hours……270 since 5pm today??? You’re highest daily score throughout the competition has been 139 votes!! Now that just doesn’t ring true.

Tiltsta
Posted on 1st November, 2009

Something seems a little fishy. Impossible number of votes in the last few hours.

nikky
Posted on 1st November, 2009

Thank god for the great British pub. Yes i agree. i haven’t had numbers like that before. but i have had a consistent number of friends votes. And as soon as vantage was out, i thought the gap was attainable. So instead of partying on Halloween, me and a few of my friends have been scouring the pubs of Brighton getting loads of extra votes from total strangers.

normula
Posted on 1st November, 2009

sounds like alot of bitterness too me … I guess Nikky’s just got lots more lovely mates.

le_monkfish
Posted on 1st November, 2009

bollocks to that…

charlie
Posted on 1st November, 2009

wow. that was a full on 6 hours work. great fun though. met some right nutters.

and what is so strange about 4 people getting 270 votes in 5 hours.

270/4 = 67.5 67.5/ 5 hours = 13.5 does 13.5 votes in one hour in a crowded pub seem impossible to you. I would say think again. We had to turn people away. Not just to avoid beer and fake blood on the laptop.

nikky
Posted on 1st November, 2009

A big Thank you to Andrea at Juice FM for the shout out. All friends, family and my hit squad team in the last few hours. I was on the edge of giving up at 4.30pm.

The Mask
Posted on 1st November, 2009

“270/4 = 67.5 67.5/ 5 hours = 13.5 does 13.5
votes in one hour in a crowded pub seem impossible to you. I would say think
again ”

Ok, thinking again lets consider the whole process of registering new voters
in a crowded pub, asking them to divulge their personal email details and
then waiting while they open up their personal email account on a strangers
laptop. Then waiting until they have recieved the confirmation email from
30 Beats! Before being able to vote. Yep I think that stretches the
imagination a bit far – don’t you?
In fact some of TJ’s new voters reported that they did not receive
confirmation emails and could not vote.

” sounds like a lot of bitterness too
me … I guess Nikky’s just got lots more lovely mates”

Its nothing to do with Bitterness, its all to do with Fairplay and the most
deserving being rewarded. Regarding Nikky’s lovely mates, I thought these
were Random Strangers piling on the votes!

Hmm. 4 Laptops = 4 IP addresses + an elaborate distortion of the
facts = 270 very odd votes!!!…

What a complicated web you weave when at first you plan to deceive……

dirty beets
Posted on 1st November, 2009

One way of checking would be to see if these extra votes were done on free email addresses like yahoo, hotmail or gmail. Emails that could be easily set up etc… If they were done on email addressess that could be verified, like @sky.com or @btinternet.com, the story may be true.

pos51
Posted on 1st November, 2009

what a complicated web you can weave when you dont want to believe the truth and have to make up some rubbish to replace it. ockhams razor should be applied here.

nikky
Posted on 1st November, 2009

That’s a nice bit of poetry there at the end of your comment Mr. Mask, but I’m afraid that’s all it is.

I sent out 200 emails saying i needed just one vote from them, and asked if they could forward to their email list.

I had a friend at a radio station say about it live on air.

plus all my usual daily votes. So that may have left potentially 100-150 votes needed in pubs, between 4 people in 6 or so hours. Does that really sound impossible to you? And no, not 4 IP adresses. I would presume that a laptop using a pubs wi-fi, would have it’s own IP address. I am not sure. Anyway, this is something 30 beats can check.

I could never have done it with my friends alone, the strangers vote without any doubt swung it. 30 beats said that was cool. I just didn’t stop until midnight. Something that cannot be said for thomas’s friends who may have been partying and booking their lift in his new car.

The Mask
Posted on 1st November, 2009

You will forgive me for being suspicious of someone who had 2000 points removed halfway through the competition which you seemed to recover from rather rapidly. Which pretty much speaks for itself. and yeah I hear you say TJ had points removed as did others. But you cannot refute the fact that you had 300% more points removed which means that your track record is far from saintly!

optimystic
Posted on 1st November, 2009

Just a remark. I don’t know why so much fuss about IP addresses since it is a basic hacking info that simply unplugging the internet cable renews one’s IP address. Should have mentioned that earlier, oops. At least that crappy song got out of the way. And now there is the sexy one and the boring one left. Let’s see…

pos51
Posted on 2nd November, 2009

“One way of checking would be to see if these extra votes were done on free email addresses like yahoo, hotmail or gmail. Emails that could be easily set up etc… If they were done on email addressess that could be verified, like @sky.com or @btinternet.com, the story may be true.”

if they banned yahoo and gmail they would have banned half of the internet.

“…..it is a basic hacking info that simply unplugging the internet cable renews one’s IP address. ….”

allow me to explain. perhaps you are talking about your class C private address which is irrelevant to this point. if you have a dynamic ip it is unlikely it will change like that and even if it does you are restricted to whatever range of ips that ISP has reserved which would be fairly obvious with a simple whois search on that block, usually though the ip changes every couple of weeks on most dynamic things ive seen. i know that nikky and friends worked hard up until the end of the contest without cheating! seems thomas’ friends are quite bad sports!

The overall winner of 30beats will be announced shortly so watch this space.

We can confirm that all votes have now been adjudicated and verified as legitimate, leading us to firmly conclude the outright 30beats winner. Please note that any speculation of cheating will have been quashed prior to the announcement, with in-depth tracking analysis and direct entrant questioning taking place.

Well all I can say after all the bickering is that 30 beats have determined the winner and have stated that Nikky is the rightful outright winner. and that they have verified the voting. I also think it was very sporting of Thomas and Col (who I think may be Colin Millard) who have been very gracious in defeat.
